John, I'm only dancing....It was a hot hot Hot late summer night in Los Angeles. As I dance my way into Taschen gallery for another iconic opening... Mick Rock's Shooting for Stardust.
The photographer who witness it all the glitter, makeup, fashion and some rock'n roll from 1972 to 1973...but he's really known as "The Man who shot the 70's."
The exhibition captures the magic of the infamous persona of Ziggy Stardust played by David Bowie. Mr. Rock also produced and directed the ultra cool music videos to some of Bowie's classic tracks like "John, I'm only dancing","Jean Genie", "Space Oddity", "Life on Mars... Interestingly enough creating music videos way before"music videos" were the norm and now sometimes a painfully requirement. I won't name any current music videos...let just say cringe...and not in a good way.
I would have loved to see the epic music video projected at the gallery... alas the shortage of wall space and well it all about the new book, "The Rise of David Bowie." I had a chance to check out the book and it's COOL from cover to cover.
Mick Rock and Rodney Bingeheimer graced the opening and the crowd went wild...and
If Bowie would had shown up I would have fainted... which would had been funny since I was wearing a fan style dress...but in all honesty I'm surprised no one fainted because at the openings peak... it was so hot it felt like a sauna...a sauna covered with beautiful images.
