48 HOURS IN SOLVANG WITH ALEX THE BEAR

HEJ!
Two hours and some change away from Los Angeles proper. Solvang is a lovely Danish inspired town founded in 1911 from previously owned Mexican  farmland. Mexican influences are very present, especially in the food. Several restaurants feature Mexican and Danish cuisine. Keeping true to the Wild Wild West fusion that is California.

5 pm

First things first... Drop out off luggage to the suite at The Hamlet Inn. A hip boutique style motel in the heart of Solvang.

7:30pm
Check out complimentary inn cruiser bikes. Nothing like Cruising on bikes like in Copenhagen.

8pm
Dinner at Root 246 a farm to table style restaurant. Featuring local wineries and interesting cocktails.

11:00 Am
Putting our name down for Brunch at the infamous Paula's Pancakes... A thirty five minute wait. Oh brunch everywhere...

It's okay, perfect for a short walk and first windmill photo with Alex the Bear.

11:15 Am
Pre-Brunch snack at Olsen's Bakery. Tea and Danish pastries of course.

11:40 Am
Danish Pancakes Yay!!

1pm
Bike check!! Cruisen... On a Sunday afternoon... Yay!!

1:15 pm
Shopping! It's really cool to see the different speciality shops... it gives me a nostalgic feeling. Of what, it must have been like to shop all artisan style. One of my favorite shops was an old school department store called Rasmussen, this place was super cool from unique hand made toys to fabric to pottery and jewelry. Another shop B.Living stood out was a more modern product boutique mixed in with curated vintage from Europe.

2pm
Danish Treats at Solvang Restaurant window for their famous Aebleskivers, a Dutch jam-filled donut like pastry. Plus, we had to get some treats for road at Old Fashion Fudge Kitchen.
4pm
Water break, of should I say beer  after biking around. Checked out The Red Viking Restaurant know for their Smørgåsbord. Where you can eat Viking style.

There’s a moment when you talk about someone in “is” present tense…and realize it has changed to the past tense “was.” Infinite Sorrow. David Bowie to me is/was a genius. I might be a “Millennial /Generation Y,” or whatever you want to call it… But I do not over use the word Genius. Let alone the word Artist. My heart broke in shock to a sea of tears for almost 24 hours… All I could talk about was David Bowie. I’m still in shock by this news.
My first memories of David Bowie were as the Goblin King Jareth in Jim Henson’s film Labyrinth. And his new wave pop album “Let’s Dance.” Inspired. He is/was a new form of art. He looked different and I love it. I wanted to sing like him and dress like him. He is/was magical. In short, people like David Bowie should never die. With that being said his visionary work in music, film, fashion and more will never die. It’s just hard to realize that he’s not going to tour or create anything anymore in this life time. That excitement of what’s next…is gone… Black Star was a parting gift. The show is over. The curtain is closed.
I could write more about how much David Bowie meant to me… but I’m still to fragile to continue writing of him in a the past tense.
“I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring.” -David Bowie
“I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, "Fuck that. I want to be a superhuman.”
-David Bowie

“I'm not a prophet or a stone aged man, just a mortal with potential of a superman. I'm living on.” -David Bowie

“I'm an instant star. Just add water and stir.”
-David Bowie

I love you David Bowie. Thank You.

//COLORS// 2016 COLOR OF THE YEAR : ROSE QUARTZ + SERENITY

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016
featuring Pantone 2016 color of the year

13-1520 TCX (Rose Quartz) - 14-3919-TCX (Serenity)

When Pantone announce Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue as the colors to represent the year 2016. I took a deep breathe...Balance. The 2015 color of the year Marsala was warm bloody wine color which intuitively was a great color choice of foreshadowing an emotionally, push for change, violent, inhumane, bias...year. As this new year come ahold I hope we learn and evolve to find inner peace and overall be more humane to each other.
As a artist, I've always been more sensitive to environment and aware of energies. Color places a big importance not only my work but to my personal energy. For my new year shoot I felt going to the beach and meditating at one of the most colorful and "you be you" places on earth Venice Beach. Venice Beach was the prefect place to reflect on the year and breathe in the hope for a positive new year and breathe out the lower energies.

As I look through my clothes I realized I own a lot of pale pink and blue... it made me smile styling seperates. In 2015 I did not blog as much. I was not inspired too...I was drained.
I'm excited for capturing my 2016 adventures.
Cheers to a new positive change.
BALANCE :)
